Why Do I like to Write?

Daily writing prompt
What do you enjoy most about writing?

Writing helps me preserve my best thinking in a cleaner, clearer, more thoughtful way by slowing down my brainwaves into telling you what I really desire to say. Lord knows I have a lot to say–and if you know me–this is the cue to roll your eyes and lol your head!

I’d say journaling and taking notes also help me see any changes I’ve had in my life by being able to look back at older inventories and entries. Time passes so quickly I forget to eat lunch. I would get home from work on Friday after a long week and stay up until two a.m. and get to bed. Then at five thirty a.m. I’d be off to the MacBook Pro all day Saturday until nine or ten p.m. and be ready for a half-day on Sunday. I needed to get an extra MacBook Pro because one would overheat and stop functioning. If I alternated between laptops, I could outwork the chips.

Don’t get me wrong, the iPhone is an incredible tool, as is texting, but I do love a good spiral notebook from Walgreens! Jotting down anecdotal happenings on the bus when they come up is usually more fun than doing the editing, especially on paper when I have a good pen or pencil.

I’ve always said a decline in an empire can be traced to pens that don’t work, and pencils with bad lead and an eraser that doesn’t erase. Being unable to toast a bagel evenly, or have a pair of razor blades last for more than three shaves, is also a sign we’re in decline. I wonder what the markers, toasters, and razors are like in China?

The thing I enjoy most about writing is looking at a professional edit from another pair of eyes. Looking at my manuscript after it has been edited was second favorite part of self-publishing a book under the Hay House Division at Balboa Press. The first favorite part is seeing the barcode at the lower right hand corner on the back page with a PLU number–meaning I made it into the US Library of Congress! Hearing from you checking out my book at the Main Library brings me joy, especially when you get on the bus at Eighth and Market!
